Málaga branch

On 25 March 2015 the first European branch of the State Russian Museum opened in Málaga, Spain, according to the agreement, signed by the Russian museum and Mayor of Málaga last year.

The museum branch is situated in "La Tabacalera" exhibition centre, former tobacco factory of 1920-s. The space provided for the exhibition purposes is 2300 square meters, which underwent major restoration before the opening of the branch.

The Russian Museum complex in "La Tabacalera" consists of exhibition rooms, restoration spaces, presentation and conference rooms, souvenir shops and cafeterias. An important part of the complex is the Virtual branch of the Russian Museum — educative project, based on the modern digital technologies.

The museum will hold three exhibitions per year — one permanent and two temporary. The first major exhibition of 2015 was “Russian art of XV—XXth centuries” which included about 100 art works from icons of the XVth century to socialist realism, among which were the paintings by A.Venetsianov, K.Briullov, A.Ivanov, V.Tropinin, I.Levitan, V.Serov, B.Kustodiev, I.Repin, P.Konchalovsky, V.Kandinsky, O.Rozanova, M.Chagall, A.Rodchenko, K.Malevich and many other famous Russian artists.

Another exhibitions on display in 2015 were “Russian art from the age of Diaghilev”, which presented about 70 works by L.Bakst, M.Vrubel, A.Golovin, N.Goncharova, M.Larionov and others, and exhibition dedicated to the avant-garde artist P. Filonov.

Since opening in 2015 to March 2016 the branch was visited by more than 107 thousand guests.

In 2016 the Russian Museum branch in Málaga presents exhibitions  “Jack of diamonds”“The four seasons”,  "Marc Chagall and his Russian contemporaries", "Cervantes in the Russian art", "Resistance, tradition and discovery".
