The Russian Museum presents the Alexei Savrasov exhibition. Alexei Savrasovis a founder of the lyric direction in the landscape genre. 90 works from collections of the Russian Museum and Tretyakov Gallery are presented at the exhibition. Along with the most famous painting Rooks have Come, which had become one of the top achievements of the Russian realistic landscape, the presented works let viewers understand how great the oeuvre of the great master was. Alexei Savrasov was born in Moscow, where he lived all his life. He graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and later headed the Landscape Class there (1857-81). From the second half of the 1860s an exceptional talent to transfuse subtly and truly the secret charm of the Russian nature started developing in Alexei Savrasov's oeuvre. According to Isaac Levitan, Alexei Savrasov tried to find 'intimate, deeply affecting, features, which influence one's soul so much, in something most simple and ordinary'. The 1870s became the time of the fullest bloom of Alexei Savrasov's oeuvre. His trips to Volga much influenced it. The theme of Spring and awakening of nature runs through Alexei Savrasov's oeuvre. It had a special lyric embodiment in his works, such as the Country View, the Overflow of Volga near Yaroslavl and the House in Province. Spring. Founder of a lasting tradition of realistic landscape, Alexei Savrasov was also a talented teacher and educated a great number of wonderful artists at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. His ability to connect human feelings with the world of nature allowed to rank the artist's works with the most absolute landscapes of the world painting.
