Exhibition of the works by Irina Yaroshevich. Sculpture, drawings. From the series Jubilees - 2003

28 August 2003—29 September 2003
A personal exhibition of a famous St. Petersburg sculptor Irina Yaroshevich, who many times took part in such large-scale exhibition projects of the Russian Museum as "Russian Impressionism", "Portrait in Russia. XX century", and "St. Petersburg. Portrait of the city and its citizens", is one more exhibition in the "Jubilees" series and is dated for the sixtieth birthday of the artist. The exhibition includes works of the recent years along with earlier creations, some of which will be introduced to public for the first time. Having graduated from the I.Y.Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in 1967, Irina Yaroshevich immediately became a constant participant of exhibitions held in the city, in the USSR, and abroad; and in 1970 she had already become a member of the Union of Artists. Works by Irina Yaroshevich create a feeling of endlessness of process of life and premonition of appearing of something new and excellent. Global character of the author's creative aim give philosophic meaning not only to sculptural compositions ("Apollo and Daphna", "Chess"), but also to portraits, characterized not with formal resemblance but with revelation of extraordinary inner sign of a personality, the sign which determines one's fate and character. Although it is easel forms that prevail in Yaroshevich's oeuvre, she is a monumental artist as for her type of creative thinking and form of realization of ideas. Light and ghraphical, at the first sight, figures and compositions have indeed so solid architectural base that can stand any enlargement. Especially individual plastic language of Irina Yaroshevich is close to Impressionistic sculpture for its exterior characteristics. When solving questions of space and time in sculpture, she creates "an image of form" rather than form itself. In graphic works Yaroshevich solves the same problems as in sculpture -those of space, time, and rhythm; only foreshortening is changed - on the plane of paper they take on different concreteness.
