Recollection of Italy. Testimony

The exhibition will showcase works of painting, sculpture, graphics, and applied art from collections of the Russian Museum and museums of Rome, Naples, Florence, and Milan, as well as from private Italian collections. Works included in the exhibition provide evidence of artistic, international, and family contacts established between Russia and Italy in 18-19th cc. Since mid 18th century relationship between St Petersburg and Italy have been not purely official and have included not only diplomatic missions, delegations and gift exchange between members of royal families. Intricate relationship between different Russian and Italian families let find out interesting facts about artists and people depicted, clients and mediators, as well as destiny of works of art themselves. The exhibition has been organized on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italian Republic with the help of the Consulate General of Italy in St Petersburg. It was dated to the tercentenary of St Petersburg.

Home and Family. Images of Peaceful Life

The Russian Museum exhibition project Artists on War and Peace can be seen as a diptych comprised of two exhibitions: Images of Military Life in Russian Art of the 16th to 20th Centuries and Home and Family. Images of Peaceful Life. They explore two existential aspects of human life perceived as polar opposites. The first half of the diptych features scenes of everyday life during wartime, while the other focuses on the theme of the home and family as guardian of the moral values of the Russian people.

Images of Military Life in Russian Art from the 16th to the 20th Centuries

Images of Military Life is an extensive exhibition featuring icons, paintings, sculptures, and applied and decorative artworks from the 16th through 20th centuries, most of them extracted from the museum’s repositories. It continues the Russian Museum’s time-honoured tradition of offering the public, from time to time, a broader perspective on its treasures and the magnitude of its collections.
