Russian Wooden Sculpture. The Twentieth Century

7 june 2001—14 august 2001
Wood is a popular medium among Russian sculptors and corresponds well to the Russian mentality. This exhibition traces the evolution of Russian wooden plastic art throughout the twentieth century. On display are the works of Anna Golubkina, Sergei Konenkov, Alexander Matveyev and Stepan Erza, who first turned to wood as a medium in the early twentieth century. The exhibition also addresses Boris Korolyov's Cubist experiments in wood and sculptures by the masters of Moscow and Leningrad.
