THE MAKOVSKY ARTISTS

The task of the exhibition is to present the creative works of 11 representatives of the Makovskies family. The artists, restorers, teachers, critics and art historians were among them. In a varying degree they made contributions in the development of the Russian culture of the XIX – middle of the XX centuries. The most prominent of them are: Konstantin and Vladimir, less known are: Nikolai, Aleksandr, Elena Luksh-Makovskaya. The exposition presents paintings, graphic works, etchings and photographs by the members of the Makovskies family and books by critic Sergey Makovsky. The viewers may see historical paintings, portraits, genre paintings, still-lifes, paintings with battle scenes and book graphics. The number of artworks is presented for the first time.

The exhibition contains artworks from collections of the Russian Museum, the Academy of Arts Museum, “Tsaritsyno” Reserve Museum, “Peterhof” Reserve Museum, the State Museum of Russian Political History (Saint-Petersburg), the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum (Moscow), Novgorod Historical and Architectural Art Museum-Reserve and private collections of Saint-Petersburg and Moscow.

The exhibition is supported by NOVATEK Company.
