VENUS SOVIETICA

1 November 2007—7 April 2008
The exhibition is timed to the 90th anniversary of the Great Russian Social Revolution. The show comprises paintings, easel and printed graphic art, sculptures, objects of decorative and applied art, posters as well as photographs from private collection of Moscow and Saint Petersburg. For the first time the exhibition presents works that reflect at the same time equally changed social status of woman and artist's traditional perception of woman as a muse, a source of inspiration and sensual beauty. The exhibition features the well-known canvases by Alexander Samokhvalov 'On the Stadium' and 'After Crossing-Country Race', Alexander Deineka 'Expanse', Andrei Mylnikov 'Morning'. The most part of the works are presented in such context for the first time: sketches for unpainted 'Joy of Life' by Alexander Samokhvalov, 'Night' by Alexander Deineka, models by Yuri Pimenov and Vladimir Lebedev, Alexander Shevchenko and Andrei Goncharov, 'Nude with White Drapery' by Vladimir Malagis. The role of emancipated woman equaled with man both in family and at work is fully reflected in posters of the 1920s. The exhibition is supplemented with the show of soviet documental and feature film clips. The multimedia film of the same title was created especially for the exhibition. The exhibition is supported by the Unident Company and Tamaz and Iveta Manasherov personally. It is accompanied by a catalogue in Russian and German.
