ERIK BULATOV MEMENTO PHOTOGRAPH. 1984–1985 OIL ON CANVAS. 120 X 180 COLLECTION OF VIKTOR BONDARENKO, MOSCOW
5 December 2012—11 March 2013
The aim of the exhibition is to present the Russian art at the end of the 20th century that was a turning point in its development. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union the art got the opportunity to exist without the barriers of censorship and outside the ideological framework. As the result there the non-structured diversity had appeared where the very different artists had found themselves in the similar situation of free self-determination.
The basis of the exposition forms the paintings and sculptures - the views of art that had experienced in this period most significant transformations. This conception is stipulated by the specific character of collection of the Russian Museum and also by the possibility of revealing the contrasts of traditions and innovations in the art of the 1985–2000 years.
The sections of the exhibition are formed about the junctions of meanings where the images, signs, moods and waiting of this time are concentrated. That is why the exposition without barriers unites the works of the representatives of different trends and generations in wide stylistic and semantic diapason (Zurab Tsereteli, Grisha Bruskin, Tatyana Nazarenko, Olga Bulgakova, Konstantin Zvezdochetov, Evsey Moiseenko, Igor Obrosov, Timur Novikov, Oleg Kulik, Geliy Korzhev, artists of the so-called New-Russian Wave, Erik Bulatov, artists of the Mitki Group and the others). The works from the Russian Museum are presented alongside with the works from the artists’ studios and also from the state and private collections of Moscow, St. Petersburg and foreign countries.
