The catalogue acquaints with the iconography of St Nicholas the Miracle Worker in artworks of the Old Russian art from the Russian Museum funds.
The publication contains the illustrated catalogue as well as articles on the image of the Saint within artistic, liturgical, sepulchral and iconographic traditions and the writing of Old Russia. Several articles are devoted to Old Russian Churches of St Nicholas and the icons of St Nicholas in the St Petersburg churches.
The peculiarity of the publication is the complex approach to the interpretation of the theme, which is evident from the structure of the catalogue including five sections: the Icon Painting, the Embroidery, the Minor Plastics, the Repoussage and the Exemplums. The catalogue also contains the best artworks of the 12th-19th centuries from the funds of the Russian Museum. All the reproduced exhibits have detailed annotations with schemes of the order of the scenes at margins and the index.
The publication has been financed by the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering.
