The publication includes articles by famous Russian and foreign experts, describing the development of art in the Soviet Union during one of the most ambiguous periods of its history between the Thaw and the Perestroika. The illustrated catalogue is divided into two parts: official art (1960) and unofficial art (1960-85). It gives a clear idea on movements, styles and individualities of artists. The publication is supplemented with chronicle of the main events of artistic life in the 1960s-80s; photographs from the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents, the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation, artists´ private collections and archives and brief biographies of artists.
The publication has been financed by the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation (Moscow) and the Verysell Company (St Petersburg)
