Dream as Reality
The publication is dedicated to the theme of a dream in its various aspects as they are evocated in Russian fine art. The album of illustrations, which includes two thematic sections (Dream as Metaphor, Dream in Bible, Myths, Allegories and Illustrations) and acquaints the reader with Old Russian artworks, paintings, sculpture and graphics from the Russian Museum collection, is preceded with two research articles that examine the evolution of the dream theme in Russian art and in works by individual artists of the 18th - early 21st centuries. The book is supplemented with detailed biographical information about the artists presented in the publication.
