Palace Editions, St Petersburg, 2012.
96 pages; 105 coloured illustrations
Format: 24x22 cm; Russian, English
The publication allows the reader to trace a complicated way of creating an artwork from its primary plastic idea to its realization exemplified by sculptures of the 20th - early 21st centuries. The book includes a research article that explains the notion of "study", "sketch" and "type" and their role in creating of an accomplished art image as applied to monumental and easel sculpture. An album of illustrations supplemented with detailed annotations that allows the reader to compare sculptural versions, which are sometimes significantly different from each other, of the artist's conception, exemplified by Paolo Troubetzkoy, Vera Mukhina, Alexander Matveyev, Vera Isaeva, Konstantin Simun and other artists. The publication is supplemented with biographical information about the sculptors presented.
