The publication is dedicated to a special part of Russian art, the painting and sculpture works by artists whose names remain little-known even for researchers. It contains a research article that gives consideration to the causes of such difficulties in attributing some of the works created in the late 17th - first half of the 20th centuries, with classification of such works and analysis of their artistic treatment, as well as to the attributing practices and their role in art history. The album of illustrations includes twelve thematic sections that acquaint the reader with the most significant and valuable artworks by unknown artists from the Russian Museum collection (Parsuna and Portraits of the Time of Peter I, Imperial Portraits, Portraits of Children, Interiors, Landscapes and Genre Scenes,Views of St Petersburg, Sculpture and others). Each reproduction is supplemented with catalogue information and annotation details (possible authors of the work, its history, and the biography of the depicted persons) which are currently available from the museum's researchers.
The album is published with support from LUKOIL and Magnezit Group
