The book presents the Russian folk festive costume as a unique phenomenon, which reserved artistic traditions of Old Russia. Dresses from the Russian Museum collection serve as examples. The album of illustrations with annotations introducing images of folk dresses (silk, brocade sarafans, sleeveless jackets and shugais, silk headscarves, brocade and velvet kokoshniks decorated with gold threads, pearls, mother of pearl, etc.) is preceded by the scholarly article. The article familiarizes the reader with main types of women's festive costumes, peculiarities of their artistic decorations and accessories. The book is supplemented by the section about preservation and development of the costume tradition in the 20th - early 21st -century folk art and full bibliography.
