21 february 2017—16 july 2017

The exhibition is held at the Málaga branch.

The exhibition “Kandinsky and Russia” presents 66 art pieces from the collection of the Russian museum. The oeuvre of Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944), world-renown Russian artist is for the first time presented with special emphasis made on the national origins of his early figurative works and abstract paintings of 1910-s. The exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist comprises his graphic and painterly works alongside with the pieces by his prominent contemporaries (Ivan Bilibin, Elena Polenova, Sergei Malyutin, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova, Kazimir Malevich, David Burliuk, Alexey Yawlensky, Marianna Verevkina and others). These artists participated with Kandinsky in the Izdebsky Salons and “The Blue Rider” group exhibitions and reflected the symbolism, expressionism and art nouveau trends.

The exposition also includes the examples of traditional Russian folk art (distaffs, birch bark boxes, embroidered towels, toys, carved wooden items) that largely influenced the stylistic and ideological principles of Wassily Kandinsky’s art.

Armchairs, chairs and stools in Russian art of the 18th-20th centuries

18 august—10 october 2022

This exhibition will introduce viewers to the furniture preserved in the Russian Museum, a collection the public is not very familiar with. It will also open up a new perspective on well-known Russian works of art. What kinds of chairs exist? What are they made of? What do people do while seated? What poses do they adopt? What does an empty chair mean? A synthesis of painting, graphic art, sculpture, applied art, and design, the Russian Museum’s exhibition stimulates ideas on these questions and more.
