The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of the famous sculptor from Leningrad, member of the group of "eleven" Konstantin Mikhailovich Simun (1934-2019). In Leningrad in 1960-1980s sculpture of Simun was perceived as an extraordinary phenomenon, which often went against the requirements of an official art critics. His works stood out for its bravery, the ambition to perceive by the artistic language various, often very sharp edges of the complex modern world.

The core of a small exhibition in the Green Hall of the The Ludwig Museum will be sculptures, which entered the museum in recent years - from the earliest piece (sculptural sketch of a female figure, the end of the 1950s) to the works made in the U.S. in the early twentieth century.

Konstantin Simun used various "non-sculptural" materials ("Sailor", "Horseman Chapayev"), but also worked in the traditional genre of realistic portrait. The exhibition will include a small-scale version of the most famous work by the artist - the monument "Broken Ring" (1966) on the shore of Lake Ladoga.

Since 1988, Konstantin Simun lived in the USA and continued to work much and productive. He discovered artistic features of plastic by using various combinations of jerrycans and other ready-made items. Simun's compositions of the 1990s and 2000s is full of metaphors and unique drama expression which is clearly manifested in his reference to the iconography of classical art.

9 June 2022—9 August 2022

The exhibition “30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great” is taking place on the Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg. The project is a reconstruction of an exhibit that was held 150 years ago at the same location and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the first Russian emperor. Fourteen original paintings from the 1872 exhibition were discovered in the State Russian Museum’s funds. They were digitally restored and will be exhibited in the form of outstanding quality canvas prints. The honour to fill the gaps and create modern interpretations of the same historical subjects was granted to the students, alumni and professors of Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts.
