November 30, the exhibition “Pavel Filonov” opened at the Samara Regional Art Museum. The exhibition is a result of the partnership between the two museums in the project “Cultural and Exhibition Centres of the Russian Museum.”
The first in Samara monographic exhibition of works by Pavel Filonov encompasses the entire career of one of the most prominent artists of the Russian avant-garde who dedicated his life to the development of a unique painting method and became renowned as “a painter of the invisible.”
The exhibition consists of 19 paintings and 12 graphic works that provide insight into the evolution of the artist’s creative vision and his way of thinking.
The State Russian Museum holds a massive collection of works by Filonov: in 1977, 300 works of painting and graphic art were donated to the Museum by the artist’s sister, Evdokiya Glebova, making the Russian Museum virtually the only owner of the artist’s legacy.
30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great
9 June 2022—9 August 2022
The exhibition “30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great” is taking place on the Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg. The project is a reconstruction of an exhibit that was held 150 years ago at the same location and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the first Russian emperor. Fourteen original paintings from the 1872 exhibition were discovered in the State Russian Museum’s funds. They were digitally restored and will be exhibited in the form of outstanding quality canvas prints. The honour to fill the gaps and create modern interpretations of the same historical subjects was granted to the students, alumni and professors of Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts.
