Pyotr Fomin. Nikita Fomin. In the Land of Pskov

P. Fomin. The fields have been harvested. 1978. Oil on canvas. 90 х 120. The State Russian Museum
18 April 2019—10 June 2019
The exhibition presents a hundred paintings by Pyotr Fomin and Nikita Fomin. P. T. Fomin (1919‒1996), holding the title of People’s Artist of the USSR, was an outstanding master of the Russian realistic landscape of the second half of the twentieth century. Nikita Fomin (b. 1949), Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, is widely known as a muralist who participated in the design of many public buildings, churches, memorials in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities.

Most of the works presented at the exhibition are connected with the Pskov land, where P. T. Fomin comes from. The hospitable house of the Fomin family in the village of Maly near Izborsk has become a creative workshop and a place of attraction for people of similar spirit, including outstanding intellectuals from Leningrad and later Saint Petersburg. Love for the native landscape, for the hills and woodlands of the Pskov region is passed from father to son. Sometimes the artists depict the same places. By observing the rendering of similar motives in the works by both artists, one can clearly see the continuity of craftsmanship, high pictorial culture, as well as the peculiarities of the manner and intonation of their individual work.

30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great

9 June 2022—9 August 2022

The exhibition “30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great” is taking place on the Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg. The project is a reconstruction of an exhibit that was held 150 years ago at the same location and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the first Russian emperor. Fourteen original paintings from the 1872 exhibition were discovered in the State Russian Museum’s funds. They were digitally restored and will be exhibited in the form of outstanding quality canvas prints. The honour to fill the gaps and create modern interpretations of the same historical subjects was granted to the students, alumni and professors of Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts.
