Gérard de la Barthe, French painter and watercolorist, worked in Russia between 1787 and 1810. In the late 1790s, he created a series of watercolors and paintings depicting views of Moscow and its suburbs that earned him a reputation as a skillful landscape painter, view painter, and “figurist” masterfully rendering the everyday life of a big city.

His designs for costumes and decorations were great part of the success of Sergey Diaghilev's "Les saisons russes" - ballet and opera performances in Russia, France and other countries. The art of Bakst largely influenced theatrical art all over the world. It became an outstanding example of a thoughtful combination of experiments with form and interest to the artistic tradition of the Ancient East and antiquity.

Gaga Kovenchuk - Georgy Vasilievich Kovenchuk (1933-2015) was born in Leningrad. Kovenchuk graduated from the graphic faculty of the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after Ilya Repin (Alexei Pahomov's studio). His grandfather, Nicolai Kulbin was a prominent figure in art world, a theoretician of the Russian avant-garde. Kovenchuk's life is organically interlinked with artistic life of St. Petersburg with many connecting lines.
