The exhibition shows works from the Federal Republic of Germany's collection of contemporary art, illustrating artists' interest in the social, political and ideological problems affecting the life of modern Germany and the whole of Europe. The exhibition has five sections - painting, graphic art, video installations, sculpture and photography. The Federative Republic of Germany collection of contemporary art dates from 1970. The collection now numbers more than one thousand works of post-war German art. The collection's trustee, Dr. Veit Loers, a former director of the Museum Abteiberg, Moenchengladbach, aims to not only trace the main tendencies, but also to reveal the special features of modern art. This is why it is necessary, in his words, to acquire works by both famous masters and young artists not yet known to the public.

Merchants, the “third estate”, at that time, were the basis of Russia’s economic power. The Stroganovs, the Demidovs and other entrepreneurs sometimes established entire “empires” with their own settlements, roads and internal regulations. The richest merchants became nobles and patrons of the arts. The exhibition is unique, both in the themes it explores and in the works it presents.
