EMMANUIL EVZERIKHIN

Emmanuil Evzerikhin is a classic of Russian photography. He took up photography when he was a schoolboy. In 1929 he became a part-time reporter of the Press-Cliché TASS in Rostov-on-Don. In a couple of years Emmanuil Evzerikhin moved to Moscow to work in the biggest national photo agency Fotokhronika TASS. He took shots of the pre-war and post-war capital, the construction of the Moscow underground and its multi-storied houses, building of DnieproGES (Dnieper Hydroelectric Station) and Turksib. He took photos travelling to the Arctic and Altai. He went through the Great Patriotic War with a camera. Emmanuil Evzerikhin took part in the defense of Stalingrad, liberation of Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Novocherkassk, cities of the Donets Basin and the Crimea, assault of Koenigsberg and celebrated the Victory in Prague. Emmanuil Evzerikhin was a master of photo-report. His numerous photographs became exemplary; they were often published in periodicals and books of that epoch. Being an experienced photo-reporter, he could not only choose the most interesting moments for photographing but also arrange the composition of every shot always with due consideration for its beauty, even during the war. The exhibition in the Russian Museum is accompanied by the first big and most comprehensive album of photographs by Emmanuil Evzerikhin.
