6 April 2006—9 May 2006
The one-woman show of the artist Katya Medvedeva is held in the rooms of the Marble Palace from 6 April to 9 May 2006. It comprises 60 works of the 1970s-2000s. For more than 20 years Katya Medvedeva has been known in the artistic world as a master of naïve painting. Her works are exhibited in Russian state museums, German, French, American and Japanese galleries of contemporary art and private collections. 2006 is a jubilee year for Katya Medvedeva and admires of her art, celebrating the 30th anniversary of her creative oeuvre. The Russian Museum introduces the works from private collections (Alina the Angel, King the Sunflower, Nostalgia, St Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, Giselle, Flower of Consolation, Michael the Archangel, Sufferings of My Mother, Swan Lake, Righteous Men on the Judgement Day) and works from the Collection on Black Velvet. Some of these works were exhibited in West European countries (2004) and the Alexander Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The collector of her works Grigory Pelman calls the oeuvre of Katya Medvedeva 'the painting of open soul'. Katya Medvedeva has shown her works in Nice twice. The White Nights of Staraya Ladoga attracted the viewers' attention. The exhibition was organised by Rene Guerra, professor of Slavonic studies and renowned collector of Russian art. Buying this work Rene Guerra asked Marc Chagall, who also appreciated it, to inscribe the canvas under the surname of the artist: 'Katya Medvedeva is a Russian talent. She loves colour, as well as I do". The St Nicholas of Myra exhibition was opened in the Benois Wing of the Russian Museum on 30 March. The show comprises about 150 works, including icon, sculpture, embroidery, objects of personal godliness, church utensils, icon painting tracings, created in the 12th-20th centuries. The exhibition continues the tradition of exhibiting works of Old Russian art from the collection of the Russian Museum, started by exhibitions dedicated to the image of Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th - 20th Centuries), 2000, and the Mother of God: We Worship Thy Immaculate Image, 1995.
