O&A FLORENSKY. RUSSIAN TROPHY

2 february 2006—25 february 2006
The Russian Trophy project by Olga and Alexander Florensky will be presented within the walls of the State Russian Museum for the first time. The authors’ conception is to reconstruct the exposition of an ordinary military museum combining the models of weapon and military equipment, ammunition and banners, paintings and graphic artworks on the military subjects within a single space. The authors offer the viewers an opportunity to interpret the name of the project themselves since it is monosemantic. "Russian" may be a trophy, captured by the Russians from some hypothetic enemies or from the Russians. The authors seem to keep aloof offering the visitors a whole display of the most widespread clichэ associated with the "image of an enemy". Among the exhibits are: Oversize Submarine, Mine-sweeper, Military Helicopter, Emblems of Hostile Countries, Mobile Regimental Treasury, Machinegun with a Saddle, Russian Battle Scenes ( a series of 8 oil paintings on canvas), etc. The exhibition is accompanied by a display of 5 Trophy Films combining archival newsreel, fiction film episodes and animation. Most of the objects will be exhibited for the first time.
