The exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of Vyacheslav Mikhailov, famous St. Petersburg artist, includes around 120 paintings and 60 graphic works from the Russian museum and other museums of Russia as well as from the private collections and the workshop of the artist. This retrospective exhibition presents the variety of Mikhailov's works from his early pieces of 1970-1980-s to the large painterly series executed in the last decade.
The basic principle of individual manner of Vyacheslav Mikhailov is reflection on the classical artistic tradition with means close to the abstract art. The exaggerated expression of his artistic manner and accentuation of the painterly surface relief are aimed at revealing the combination of the real and conventional in his art. At the same time in his graphic works Mikhailov stands as the master of expressive and bright scenes, portraits and genre pieces filled with profound philosophical meaning.
