The exhibition gives the opportunity to trace back the history of the genre art’s origination and evolution on the example of works by the famous Russian artists I. Ermenjev, M. Kozlovsky, A. Venetzianov, P. Fedotov. There are also presented the genre works by the little-known foreign artists of the XVIII–first half of the XIX century and the unique porcelain articles of this time with the depictions of the Russian people’s types and genre scenes. These works are a kind of encyclopedia of the Russian everyday life, revealing the joyful and tragic sides of the latter.
The true blossoming of the everyday life genre in the second half of the XIX century had find the reflection in the graphic works by I. Repin and V. Makovsky and in the sculpture works by I. Ginzburg, A. Ober, P. Trubetskoi and F. Kamensky. The final section of the exposition presents the new ways of development of the everyday life genre in the Russian art the graphic works by V. Serov, B. Kustodiev, K. Yuon, B. Grigoriev and by the other famous artists of the beginning of the XX century.
Drawings and Watercolours by the Wanderers

The exhibition presents graphic works created by the founders of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions, as well as by artists of the younger generation. Graphic works by the Wanderers supplement the idea of the work of artists whose paintings became significant events in social life.
