The State Russian Museum / St Michael’s Castle SUSTAINING AND CREATING
SUSTAINING AND CREATING exhibition is the result of successful realization of the program of support for the young artists Unusual Art that gives an incredible chances for the development of artist with limited physical opportunities in the age from 16 to 25 and allows them to receive the national recognition in the very beginning of their career. To Create is to Live presents the best works from the competitions of last few years that presented original and innovatory ideas that are linked with the idea of "support for life". The content of this idea is interlaced with the concepts of responsibility and different aspects of human life - from attitude to the environment to attitude to culture, from inner world to action and from singular person to society. In the works presented on the exhibition the works in abstract manner or visual monologues with close attention to realistic details the basic concepts of drawing of the physically challenged in our everyday life finds its embodiment. These art works gives the viewer an opportunity to appreciate the unique talent of each participant of this exhibition.
The exhibition is presented by the Unusual Art program of John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the financial support of American filial of the Volkswagen Company
From Peter the Great to Elizabeth Petrovna

This exhibition, unique in its scale, covers the period from the death of Peter the Great to the accession to the throne of his daughter Elizabeth Petrovna (1725–1742). The main events of the internal Russian life in the time of struggle for Peter the Great’s legacy shown on the material from the collections of 21 museums, including State Hermitage Museum, the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Kremlin Museums, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of the History of St Petersburg, the Peterhof State Museum and Reserve, the Pavlovsk State Museum, the Arkhangelskoye State Museum and Reserve and others.
Master of Painting. 325th Anniversary of Ivan Vishnyakov’s Birth

Ivan Vishnyakov is one of the leading artist of the 18th century, portraitist, mural painter, restorer and teacher. However, not much of the artist’s vast legacy, the result of thirty years of untiring creative activity, has survived to the present day. All the more valuable are the eleven surviving portraits in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Vasily Tropinin and Moscow Artists of His Time, art museums in Tver and Rybinsk, and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
