Titmouse Day - Events

Titmouse Day

12 november 2015—20 november 2015

On 12 of November Titmouse Day is celebrated in Russia. This holiday was established by the initiative of the Russian Bird Conservation Union in order to attract people's attention to numerous species of wintering birds in the northern latitudes: titmouses, goldfinches, bullfinches, jays and other birds. The winter season opens for birds on this day, when feeders are installed.

Beautiful wooden feeders will be established in the Summer Garden and the Mikhailovsky Garden, they were donated by designers and artists of St. Petersburg to the Russian Museum in 2013. Each feeder is decorated in an individual author's style to please the wintering birds and visitors who come to feed them. Russian museum staff prepared interesting and informative program for children of the correctional schools and boarding schools. They talked about the birds wintering in the Summer Garden and the Mikhailovsky Garden, they wrote wishes for the birds, and they explored the Mikhailovsky Garden, where museum staff showed mounted feeders and told how to feed the birds.
