AVANTGARDENS is the theme of the exhibition of garden and park art for 2017. During the White Nights season, there will be an extravagant celebration presenting various landscaping compositions, garden installations, and art objects. Many interesting surprises await visitors: outstanding and interesting events, concerts, and theatrical performances, as well as exclusive avant-garde souvenirs.

During this anniversary year, exhibition participants have dared to partake in a bold experiment: in their works, they will try to interpret concepts and images from avant-garde art in the space of the Mikhailovsky Garden in the immediate vicinity of the Russian Museum. The theme of ecology will also be touched upon, as 2017 has been declared the Year of Ecology in the Russian Federation.

Imperial Gardens of Russia is today the only festival of its kind in Northwest Russia. The starting point was 2008, the year the 110th anniversary of the Russian Museum was celebrated. The main organizer then was the Russian Museum itself with support from the Prince Michael of Kent Foundation and the Union of Horticulturists of Russia. Today, the celebration stands among other famous landscaping events around the world such as the Chelsea Flower Show, London; Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, England; and the International Garden Festival in Chaumont-sur-Loire, France.

In 2013, the exhibition was awarded the Highest Russian Award from the Russian National Prize for Landscape Architecture in the category “Event of the Year”, and in 2014, it took first place in the final of the National Prize in the Sphere of Cultural Tourism, the Russian Event Awards, in the category “Best Project in the Cultural Sphere”.
