Reconstruction of the courtyards of the Mikhailovsky Palace will pass without displacement of the funds and closing the museum to visitors.

The first phase of the project includes covering of one of the courtyards (left) with translucent light and installation the elevator to ensure the complete availability of the Mikhailovsky Palace exhibitions to people with disabilities.

One of the tasks of the first phase of the project is the development of the museum exhibitions: the establishing of the Republican Centre of the Russian graphic art and the Graphic Cabinet in St. Michael’s Castle.

Also, the Russian Museum will be able to proceed to the restoration of the Throne Hall (267.2 square meters), the Resurrection Hall (348, 5 sq.m.), Arabesque Gallery (137 sq.m.) and other halls in St. Michael’s Castle. These works will begin after moving of the Central Naval Library (2200 square meters) from the Mikhailovsky Castle, which will start in May 2016.
