The exhibition dedicated to the 165th anniversary of Mikhail Aleksandrovich Vrubel (1856-1910) will present the main stages of the path of one of the leading masters of Russian art. As the titans of the Renaissance, the artist was richly gifted. His creative pursuits and achievements were far ahead of his time. Portraits of contemporaries and landscapes created by him, works inspired by Russian and ancient mythology and classical literature, are marked by high spirituality. The creative heritage of the master met a happy fate - once having a strong influence on the contemporaries, it has not lost its relevance over time and invariably serves as a pure model and genuine schooling for many generations of artists and art connoisseurs. Paintings “Girl against the backdrop of a Persian carpet”, “Demon Seated”, “Swan Princess”, illustrations for the works by Mikhail Lermontov, compositions inspired by the poetic images by Alexander Pushkin (“Prophet”, “Six-winged Seraph”) and Johann Wolfgang Goethe (“Faust”) have become an integral part of the national culture.
The exposition brings together more than 220 works from the collections of the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery, as well as from private collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The exhibition presents all forms of fine arts which the artist put his talent into (painting, graphics, arts and crafts). Next to recognized masterpieces, works are exhibited that are still little known to the general public.
The exhibition is organized with the support of SberBank.
The exhibition will possibly be extended. Information will be updated on the website and social media.
