Russia. Realism. XXI century

Dmitry Loktionov. Hares and Cabbage. Apprehension of the Civil War. 2015 Oil on canvas. 45 Tavricheskaya Painting Gallery
11 November 2015—24 February 2016

The exhibition presents the development of a variety of realistic tradition in the works of contemporary Russian artists working on the brink of academic, photorealism, and other variations of this movement that emerged in the last decades of the twentieth century. The exposition consists of the works of famous, mostly young painters and graphic artists of St. Petersburg and Moscow (Alexey Belyaev-Gintovt Ekaterina Grachev Vadim Grigoriev-Bashun Alexander Dashevsky, Frol Ivanov Denis Ichitovkin, Taisiya Korotkov, Cyril Koteshov Olga Osnach Paul separately Catherine Igor Pestov Vladimir Potapov Vitaly Pushnitskii, Kerim Ragimov, Hamid Savkuev Victor Safonkin Maria Safronova, Mikhail Khazin, and others). Many of these artists brings the desire to lock in an acute, sometimes provocative form a new angle from which is now considered realistic tradition.

The terms of the interests of the authors of the works presented is very wide: it is a passion for

«leaving nature» and manifestations «Soviet» in the present or artist retreat to the position of an observer who eschews ratings and comments. Also in the works of a number of young artists developed a special concept of the painting, which operates objective form, feeling distrust of visual reality and currently existing technology of its objective of fixing. Despite the fact that the participants in this project do not belong to any one association or a circle of associates with a distinct artistic positions, the exhibition has a holistic concept. The exhibition can reveal the specifics of the realism of the XXI century in the context of the problems of contemporary art and show this phenomenon as an integral part of the contemporary creative process.
