The work of eminent Russian animal sculptor Nikolai Lieberich (1828-1883), a retired colonel of the Imperial Guard who was honoured with rank of Academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts for his work, constituted an entire epoch in the history of Russian bronze sculpture. The illustrations in the album are preceded by scholarly articles presenting a detailed biographical sketch that highlights different aspects of the life and work of the sculptor, and familiarizes the reader with unique works of art found in different museum collections. Two appendixes are included. One of them, a list of works by Nikolai Lieberich, which was compiled in 1898 and is now a part of the Russian Museum's collection, is being published for the first time. The other is an open letter by the sculptor entitled, "On the Question of Artistic Rights of Ownership", which was published in 1881 in the Peterbursky Listok newspaper and had long been forgotten.
