This book, which was prepared to accompany the exhibition of the same name, serves as an introduction to Hamburg artists who worked from the latter third of the 19th century through the first half of the 20th century from the private collection of Mathias Hans (Hamburg, Germany). The album of illustrations includes five major thematic sections, each of which is preceded by detailed background information about the works of the painters, graphic artists and sculptors who made significant contributions to the cultural life of Hamburg. The album is supplemented by a list of literature and an index of the names of the artists represented in the publication.
