This book contains works by Karl Brullov that have recently been found in private collections in Moscow and St Petersburg. Some of the published paintings have been mentioned in sources and in literature with the notation "location unknown", and others were unknown to earlier authors who have written about Brullov. The majority of the works presented in the book are being published and commented upon for the first time. The catalogue includes a scholarly article in which the issues surrounding the identification and study of the newly-discovered works by Brullov are covered in detail, as are the unique characteristics of the artistic decisions he made while creating these works. An annotated album of illustrations is also included.
The Russian Museum thanks Vladimir Konovsky, the collector of the Andrei Katkov collection, for his help in the realization of this project
