Portraits of Count Nikolai Sheremetev: New Revelations

Amerling was one of the best masters of children’s portrait of his time. The portrait of the little Count Sheremetev discovered in the State Russian Museum is the only work of the master in Russia so far. The exhibition will feature portraits of Nikolai Sheremetev made by various artists in various techniques - painting, miniature, sculpture, original and printed graphics from the collection of the State Russian Museum, the Ostankino Estate Museum (Moscow), the State Historical Museum, and the collection of T. A. Udras (Moscow).
Pavel Zhukovsky. On the 175th Anniversary of Birth

The artist Pavel Vasilyevich Zhukovsky (1845-1912) was the son of the great Russian poet Vasily Zhukovsky. His work is little known to art lovers today. But in the last third of the 19th century Pavel Zhukovsky was quite well known in social and cultural circles. The works of Pavel Zhukovsky bear the stamp of his passion for Italian Renaissance painting, religious and antique themes. Their execution and figurative interpretation allow us to refer the artist's work to the academic style of late European Romanticism and Symbolism.
A Meeting of Friends by Alexander Samokhvalov

On the 75th anniversary of Victory Day, the Russian Museum shows the work by Alexander Nikolaevich Samokhvalov "A meeting of friends" (1945). Despite the fact that the artist's heritage has been studied almost completely, this painting was a real discovery for researchers of his work. Pavel Stroganov: Italian Journey

Count Pavel Sergeevich Stroganov (1823-1911), traveling with his family in Italy in 1839-1841, captured the image of this country in numerous drawings, which were considered the works of an unknown master until recently. At the exhibition in the halls of the palace that belonged to the Stroganovs, the Russian Museum will show 60 wonderful drawings from its collection for the first time and comment in a multimedia show how their research was carried out, which made it possible to prove the authorship of Count Pavel Stroganov.
Vladimir Vasilkovsky. To the 100th Birth Anniversary

The exhibition is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Vladimir Sergeevich Vasilkovsky (1921-2002), an outstanding figure of St. Petersburg culture. He left an impressive mark in the urban environment: modern St. Petersburg cannot be imagined without the buildings and bridges designed by Vasilkovsky. One of the facets of the master's work will be shown in the exhibition - his graphics and ceramics.

Belsky brothers (Ivan (1719-1799), Alexey (1729-1796) and Efim (1730-1778)) were the greatest masters of the painting team of The Chancellery (later The Office) of buildings of Her Imperial Majesty. January 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of Antarctica discovery by Russian navigators F. F. Bellingshausen and M. P. Lazarev. The exhibition timed to coincide with the Year of Antarctica in Russia presents about 100 works of painting, graphics, sculpture, numismatics, decorative-applied and folk art from the collection of The State Russian Museum. The core of the exhibition is formed by sections devoted to the discovery of Antarctica and the exploration of the Arctic by Russian travelers, sailors, and scientists.
Armchairs, chairs and stools in Russian art of the 18th-20th centuries

This exhibition will introduce viewers to the furniture preserved in the Russian Museum, a collection the public is not very familiar with. It will also open up a new perspective on well-known Russian works of art. What kinds of chairs exist? What are they made of? What do people do while seated? What poses do they adopt? What does an empty chair mean? A synthesis of painting, graphic art, sculpture, applied art, and design, the Russian Museum’s exhibition stimulates ideas on these questions and more.
