Boris Kustodiev. Portrait of Fyodor Shalyapin
The portrait from the collection of the Russian Museum is an authentic variant of the large-scale portrait of the famous singer held in Shalyapin Museum in St. Petersburg. Kustodiev had painted the initial version in 1921, just before Shalyapin left Russia for good, taking the portrait with him. The smaller version was successfully exhibited in Sweden, Canada, and the USA. The artist himself was very fond of the painting and kept it until his death.
The exhibition of the portrait will travel across the Chelyabinsk Region: after being shown in Chelyabinsk, it will move to Satka and then to Magnitogorsk to be displayed at the Magnitogorsk Painting Gallery.

The exhibition shows engravings and lithographs from the collection of the Russian Museum devoted to the suburbs of St Petersburg. A wide panorama of the city's surroundings offers a rare opportunity to see what the buildings and parks of Tsarskoye Selo and Pavlovsk, now partially missing their original appearance, used to look like in the 19th century.
