Three Great Portraitists: Rokotov, Levitsky, Borovikovsky

V. Borovikovsky. Portrait of A. G. and A. A. Lobanov-Rostovsky. 1814. State Russian Museum
23 March 2018—17 June 2018
An exhibition at the Cultural and Exhibition Center of the Russian Museum in Murmansk presents 40 paintings by three great Russian masters of portraiture held in the collection of the Russian Museum: F. Rokotov, D. Levitsky, and V. Borovikovsky.

The legacy of the three Russian artists who lived and worked in the second half of the 18th century is commensurable to the works of the leading European portraitists of that era. Each of them has his own unique way of rendering the characters, his own style and manner. The works by Rokotov, Levitsky, and Borovikovsky mirror the epoch and reflect its aesthetic, philosophical, and religious ideas.

D. Levitsky. Portrait of Anna Protassova. 1800. State Russian Museum D. Levitsky. Portrait of Daughter A. D. (Agasha) Levitskaya. 1785. State Russian Museum F. Rokotov. Portrait of Grand Duke Alexander Pavlovich as a Child. Early 1780s. State Russian Museum

30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great

9 June 2022—9 August 2022

The exhibition “30 paintings from the life of Peter the Great” is taking place on the Field of Mars in Saint Petersburg. The project is a reconstruction of an exhibit that was held 150 years ago at the same location and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the first Russian emperor. Fourteen original paintings from the 1872 exhibition were discovered in the State Russian Museum’s funds. They were digitally restored and will be exhibited in the form of outstanding quality canvas prints. The honour to fill the gaps and create modern interpretations of the same historical subjects was granted to the students, alumni and professors of Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts.
