The 5th Photobiennale of Contemporary Photography
The Russian Museum engages a wide range of participants: not only professionals but also novice photographers and amateurs can show their work. The Photobiennale format remains unchanged from year to year, leaving the authors free choice and allowing them to reflect all the diversity of techniques, genres, and stylistic trends in contemporary photography.
295 artists from 71 towns and cities of the Russian Federation participate in the 5th Biennale. The exhibition is conventionally divided into eight thematic blocks: “City,” “Still Life,” “Nude,” “Landscape,” “Everyday Life,” and “Portrait.” The thematic and genre variety of works participating in the project allows revealing the multifaceted nature of the art of photography, to demonstrate its expressiveness and imaginality of artistic methods.
Ancient Myth and the Modern World

The exhibition includes around 70 paintings and sculptures from the mid-20th century to the early 21st, taken from the Russian Museum collection and from artists’ studios in Moscow and St Petersburg.
