VLADIMIR TITOV

Road. 2007. Oil on canvas : 95x180
28 October 2009—1 December 2009

For the first time the paintings by the well-known painter-emigrant Vladimir Titov, who lives now in France are presented at his personal exhibition in Saint-Petersburg. The exposition includes 45 works from the author's collection.

Vladimir Titov was born in 1950 in Moscow. He learned from the legendary nonconformal painter Vasily Sitnikov. Later he joined this trend himself. Vladimir Titov gets the topics from the social environment of the city outskirts, slums, back streets, his heroes are the outcast inhabitants of the megalopolis. But his art is not the continuation of the descriptive-genre painting, that was traditional for the Russian art, it is not one of the soc-art trends. Highlighting the realm of shadows in the every day life Titov finds its beauty  and poetry, that are strange and unusual for the Russian tradition.

For the Glory of Russia. Entrepreneurs and Patrons in Russia in the 18th – Early 20th Centuries

6 June—5 August 2024

Merchants, the “third estate”, at that time, were the basis of Russia’s economic power. The Stroganovs, the Demidovs and other entrepreneurs sometimes established entire “empires” with their own settlements, roads and internal regulations. The richest merchants became nobles and patrons of the arts. The exhibition is unique, both in the themes it explores and in the works it presents.
