The Artistic Legacy of the Klodt Family

The Artistic Legacy of the Klodt Family
23 December 2020—12 April 2021
Pyotr Klodt (Peter Jakob Clodt von Jurgensburg, 1805–1867) – was a renowned animalist sculptor, author of a famous group of equestrian statues, the Horse Tamers, installed at the Anichkov Bridge. Pyotr Klodt started an artistic dynasty, which creative heritage now presented in a large exhibition for the first time.
The Russian Museum keeps the finest collection of Pyotr Klodt's sculptural works. Along with unique author's wax sketches, received from the museum of the Imperial Academy of Arts, there are presented models of famous horse groups for Anichkov Bridge, the equestrian monument to Emperor Nicholas I, and the monument to Ivan Krylov, as well as bronze tides of famous animalistic statuettes. Another section of the exposition consists of painters' works - representatives of the Klodt family, members of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions: genre paintings by sculptor's son - Mikhail Petrovich Klodt (1835-1914) and works by his nephew - landscape painter Mikhail Konstantinovich Klodt (1833-1902). The creativity of these masters made an original page in the history of national art of the second half of the nineteenth century, brightly and versatilely reflecting important trends in its development. The exposition is supplemented by the works of Nikolay Alexandrovich Klodt (1865-1918), Peter Klodt's grandson, painter, and theatrical artist, as well as engraving samples with images of P. Klodt's works and portraits of his creative dynasty.

Master of Painting. 325th Anniversary of Ivan Vishnyakov’s Birth

Master of Painting. 325th Anniversary of Ivan Vishnyakov’s Birth

26 April—1 July 2024

Ivan Vishnyakov is one of the leading artist of the 18th century, portraitist, mural painter, restorer and teacher. However, not much of the artist’s vast legacy, the result of thirty years of untiring creative activity, has survived to the present day. All the more valuable are the eleven surviving portraits in the collections of the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Vasily Tropinin and Moscow Artists of His Time, art museums in Tver and Rybinsk, and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
