Unexpected Malevich. From the Archive of A. A. Leporskaya, Donated to the Russian Museum

K. Malevich. Woman's Portrait in a Feathered Hat. Late 1900s. Graphite pencil on paper. State Russian Museum
15 November 2018—21 January 2019
The Russian Museum could boast of the largest and most comprehensive collection of paintings by Kazimir Malevich in the world. However, there had been only 35 graphic works by the renowned avantgardist in the museum’s collection before the receipt of an invaluable gift. Drawings, nevertheless, comprise a very important part of the artist’s legacy. It is in them that ideas and insights are first captured in material form, to be later realized in paintings. Fortunately, many of Malevich’s graphic works that had not been scattered across museums and private collections were preserved in the archive of A. Leporskaya and N. Suetin, Malevich’s students and associates. With great joy, the Russian Museum received a precious gift of 117 drawings by Malevich from R. F. Strimaitis, made in accordance with the will of N. Suetina, heir to Anna Leporskaya and daughter of Nikolay Suetin. In anticipation of the 125th anniversary of the Russian Museum, it is very important to show this generous gift to the broad public.

The exhibition is supported by Sistema Charitable Foundation.
