MODERN INDIAN ART. PAINTING TRAJECTORIES

The Modern Indian Art. Painting Trajectories exhibition is the attempt to present the basic tendencies of development of the Indian art from 1850. The exposition begins with the landscapes, stage portraits of the British period of the Indian art and unknown Indian painters of the XIX century. Much attention is given to the interest of  the Indian painters in the “Bengal school”, renaissance of the history of the national art and “Svadeshi”. Large part of the exhibition is devoted to the Rabindranat Tagor school and to the painters, that are connected with his teaching  about the dissolution in the landscape and applied role of art in different aspects of the every-day life. The exhibition finishes with the Indian art of the last third of the XX century and beginning of the XXI century, that combines the abstract painting language with the interest in the national history and mythology.

“He Conquered Both Time and Space...” 225th Anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s Birth

This is the first ever large-scale exhibition held in the Russian Museum to address the genius of Russian and world culture, whose anniversary will be an international event. The museum rich depositories enable to characterize the oeuvre of the great writer most fully and diversely and to reconstruct the cultural and historical background, which witnessed the formation and heyday of Pushkin’s unique talent.

The exhibition is dedicated to a hundred-year-old tradition of producing decorative “military plates” depicting imperial army uniforms. Besides plates, the exhibition includes drawings and lithographs that served as sources or preliminary studies for paintings by such famous artists of the “uniform” genre.
