Alexander Benois di Stetto. Genevan Period

The Russian Museum presents the exhibition of the works by Alexander Benois di Stetto. 23 paintings - landscapes and portraits created in the 1920s. Baroque mansions in Geneva, small villages in the Alps, Swiss lakes and small towns on their banks - these are the artist's favourite themes. The landscapes painted in the environs of the Lake Geneva are characterized by the skill to use the rich, sometimes open colour. Portrait has a special place in the artist's oeuvre. He uses complicated attributes, highlights the costume and surroundings, and aspires to create the portrait-symbol. His self-portraits are full of energy and emotions. Portraits of his wife, who is often a model for him, are more lyrical and tender.
