The publication acquaints with the artistic traditions of one of the most interesting regions of the North-West Russian folk art (former Kargopol district of the Olonetsk province).

The compilation includes essays, devoted to artworks of Old Russian painting and sculpture, fretwork and paintwork on wood, clay toy, cubic printed pattern, figured weaving and embroidery from the Museum collection. Each article is supplemented with coloured illustrations and bibliography.

The compilation is dedicated to the memory of Natalia Taranovskaya, famous expert on folk art and one of the oldest curators of the Russian Museum.
