Structures

Francisco Infante-Arana. From the Dynamic Spirals cycle. 1964. Construction of Spiral Number 1. Watercolor on paper. Property of the author.
6 April 2017—7 August 2017

The project that includes art pieces from 1960s to present time is aimed to investigate the concept of the structure (from Latin structura ‎- a fitting together, adjustment, building). Seen as characteristics of the form it acquires pure philosophical meaning. The large-scale and profound “discussion on formalism” will be carried out in the exhibition spaces of the Marble palace.

The exhibition underlines the relevance of the art of “pure” forms and present the models and matrix of the structures that were widely used in the art of previous and present centuries and became its key motifs (grid, crystal, chain, spiral etc.) It comprises works from the collection of the Russian museum, Novy museum (St.Petersburg), Museum of Organic Culture (Kolomna), private collections and artist’s workshops.

The exhibition is opening at 4 PM.

For the Glory of Russia. Entrepreneurs and Patrons in Russia in the 18th – Early 20th Centuries

6 June—5 August 2024

Merchants, the “third estate”, at that time, were the basis of Russia’s economic power. The Stroganovs, the Demidovs and other entrepreneurs sometimes established entire “empires” with their own settlements, roads and internal regulations. The richest merchants became nobles and patrons of the arts. The exhibition is unique, both in the themes it explores and in the works it presents.
