Alexander Pavlov

March. 2011. Oil on canvas
23 November 2016—20 February 2017

Alexander Pavlov was born on 9 May 1951 in Dmitrievskoe village (Ivanovskaya district). He has studied and graduated from the Ivanovo art school (1966-1970), studying painting in the class of I.Kalashnikov, student of the artist A. Osmerkin. In 1970 his works were given the Diploma at the International art student exhibition in Kazan. From 1974 to 1977 he was external student in the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, studying with the best masters of painting.

The landscape as a universal image of nature is always - directly or symbolically - present in the works of Alexander Pavlov. Inviting the viewer to his painterly world, he creates the atmosphere of warmth and intimacy and develops the images familiar to everyone from one’s childhood. The secret of Pavlov’s works’ charm is in their subtle spirituality, as well as their being full of light, air and color. His still lifes are rendered in the organic way, close to that of the landscapes. As the representative of Russian classical school of painting Alexander Pavlov is solving his artistic tasks using various methods and techniques. The world on Pavlov’s canvases is familiar to each one, ordinary and simple but at the same time appealing and poetic.

The exhibition presents the oeuvre of the last decades that reflects the evolution of the artist’s work from the nature study to the philosophical expression, from sketch to painting. The exhibition in the Marble palace contains around 100 art works from the Russian museum and a private collection.

The exhibition is supported by:

Vladimir Yakushev, Governor of Tyumen district

Natalia Shevchik, Deputy Governor of Tyumen district

Sergey Korepanov, Chairman of Tyumen Regional Duma

Merchants, the “third estate”, at that time, were the basis of Russia’s economic power. The Stroganovs, the Demidovs and other entrepreneurs sometimes established entire “empires” with their own settlements, roads and internal regulations. The richest merchants became nobles and patrons of the arts. The exhibition is unique, both in the themes it explores and in the works it presents.
