On 7th December, St Catherine’s Day the Hermitage museum celebrates its 252th birthday.
1764 is considered the year of the foundation of the museum when Empress Catherine II acquired the first major collection of paintings formed by Johann Gotzkowski for King Frederick II of Prussia.
The programm of festive events - the Days of the Hermitage - will pass during December and will include exhibitions' openings and grand ceremonies.
The 7th of December is the day of free admission for all visitors.
