Mikhailovsky Palace
Ancient Art of XIV-XVII Centuries
Permanent exhibition
Collection of the Old Russian painting of the Russian Museum is one of the largest and most significant in Russia. It includes around six thousand icons. The permanent exhibition housed in the first four halls of Mikhailovsky Palace represents a part of this collection, the most valuable works of XII-XVII centuries created in the major art centers of Old Russia: Novgorod, Pskov, Vladimir, Suzdal, Moscow, and Yaroslavl.

Vyacheslav Pakulin: Searching for the Style of an Era

Vyacheslav Pakulin, endowed with a unique, striking talent, in 1920s and 1930s was caught up by the search for a "great style", paying tribute to the common aspirations of many artists of the post-revolutionary period. The first personal exhibition of the artist in the Russian Museum is aimed to fully present his searches and discoveries in the field of painting, graphics and theatrical art.

4th Biennale of Historical and Archival Photography from Russian Museums and Archives

The Biennale of Historical and Archival Photography once again presents inaccessible photo collections of regional museums. The exhibition will show 144 photographs from museums in Voronezh, Ivangorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Rybinsk, Ryazan, Simferopol, Omsk, Pskov, Uglich, Yakutsk. The exposition is structured as a consistent story about the cultural, everyday and political life of Russia in the 1870s - 1930s.

In the summer of 2017, the collection of the Russian Museum received a donation of an extensive collection of works by various artists, which was called the Leporskaya Archive in historiography. The archive included over 600 works by Anna Alexandrovna Leporskaya herself: 512 drawings, watercolors, gouaches, 10 canvases and more than 100 porcelain items.

The AZ Museum (Museum of Anatoly Zverev) presents one of its most successful exhibition projects "Faces / Faces / Muzzles".
The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the famous Moscow artist Anatoly Zverev (1931–1986) and is dedicated to the phenomenon of casual portraiture in Russian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.
