Alla Manilova

  Alla Yuryevna Manilova was born on 16 July 1957 in Leningrad.

1979 Graduated with honours from the Faculty of Journalism of Leningrad State University (now St Petersburg State University).

1980–1988 Reporter, head of department and deputy editor of the weekly Svetlana. Twice received the prize of the Union of Journalists of the USSR.

1988–1990 Special reporter and member of the editorial board of the newspaper Leningradskaya Pravda.

1990–1994 Deputy, then first deputy, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Nevskoye Vremya.

1994 Elected editor-in-chief of the Nevskoye Vremya, held the post until 2003. Laureate of the Golden Quill Prize. Chairperson of the League of Journalists of St Petersburg.

1996 Campaigned actively for Anatoly Sobchak.

2003 Served on Valentina Matvienko’s campaign staff for the gubernatorial elections.

October 2003 Appointed Chairperson of the Committee for the Press and Mass Media Relations, became a member of the Government of St Petersburg. 

June 2008   Took up the post of Vice-Governor of St Petersburg, overseeing culture, education, science, youth policy, event tourism and the media. Left the post in September 2011 after Valentina Matvienko left for the Federation Council.

2005–2011 Vice-President of the Russian Book Union and Chairperson of the boards of directors of the newspaper Sankt-Peterburgskiye Vedomosti, the St Petersburg House of Books, the Petrocentre Information and Publishing Centre of the Government of St Petersburg, and the City Agency for Television and Radio Broadcasting; also a member of the board of directors of the Television and Radio Company “Petersburg–Channel Five”. Chaired the Publishing Council of St Petersburg and the Toponymic Commission of St Petersburg, and served as President of the St Petersburg Dancesport Federation. 

From January 2012   Worked in the Government of the Russian Federation. 

July 2012    Appointed Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation. 

26 June 2018    Appointed State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Culture, overseeing legislative activity, museum affairs, theatre and music, and international cultural cooperation.

25 April 2023     Appointed General Director of the State Russian Museum.

Since July 2023 Head of the Association of Art Museums of Russia.

Holds the rank of Actual State Councillor of the Russian Federation, 1st Class (2017).

Received the gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation, the Chairperson of the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Head of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, and the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
