Minsk hosted the Russian Museum Days – an event of unprecedented scale

The events were designed both for the professional community and the general public.

Leading staff members of the Russian Museum delivered presentations to Belarusian museum professionals. These included a seminar entitled “Contemporary Trends and Current Practices in Working with Visitors: The Experience of the Russian Museum”, as well as the “Russian Museum Career Lab” – a programme designed for high school, college, and university students. In addition, a unique multi-level museum education programme “Hello, Museum!” was presented for museum staff and educators in Minsk.

Restorers from the Russian Museum conducted a seminar “Current Issues and Trends in the Development of Contemporary Museum Restoration” for 20 restorers from museums of the Republic of Belarus.

Only during the Russian Museum Days could visitors experience Marc Chagall’s studio, recreated from archival photographs, correspondence, documents, and the memories of his students in the Russian Museum’s new immersive VR project “The Studio of Marc Chagall”. Using cutting-edge technology, visitors studied masterpieces by Marc Chagall from the Russian Museum collection in detail, drew on an easel, and handled newspapers, books, sculptures, and ceramics. They could even hear the voices of Marc Chagall and Bella Rosenfeld, recreated using modern technology.

As part of the Russian Museum Days, the exhibition Chagall: A Promenade at the Art Museum opened at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. Marc Chagall’s absolute world masterpiece Promenade (1917) from the Russian Museum collection arrived for the first time on the artist’s home soil. Residents and guests of Minsk will be able to visit the exhibition until 6 July.
